Martini Hour 043, In Which Colleen Experiences Photoshop Experts in 3D

Sometimes a hat is just a hat. Unless it's a hat drawn during a lesson with two amazing masters of Photoshop 3D, Bert Monroy and Corey Barker. A lesson that took place in the VIP lounge of our Martini Hour Las Vegas Extravaganza. Then, said hat is a testament to the ability of good teachers to teach highly visual subjects in a completely audio format. And the improved 3D abilities of Photoshop CS4. Oh, and Corey taught me to draw a wine bottle, too. Because, you know, he gets me.

Hold on to your ugly, if three-dimentional, hats folks, here's what we have this week: Read more »

Martini Hour 020, In Which Deke Aspires to Be Asleep In the Gutter

This week on Martini Hour, the lounge is once again full of luminary talent, international charm, and refreshing cocktails. We've invited back that wizard of digital paint, Bert Monroy, to discuss his new work, "Times Square at Night." And we're also fortunate enough to have that salty-tongued Canadian Karen Gauthier from Gridiron software visit us once again. (It's a good thing, too, because with the gazillion terabites of files that go into Bert's 5-ft x 25-ft digital painting, he is the perfect stress tester for Karen's new product, Flow.)

Here's what we found in the mind of the master this week: Read more »

Martini Hour 017, In Which Colleen Discovers Deke's Secret Martini Past (with Bert Monroy)

After a couple of weeks of just me and Deke in the lounge, I decided it was time to lure in another digital imaging luminary. So I mixed up some Black Russians and sent the dekeLimo for none other than digital photo-realistic artist, Bert Monroy. Well, actually, you'll find out during this week's show that Bert calls his stunning works of digitally-creating-something-from-nothing "hyper-realism." If you check out Bert's artwork here, you'll probably agree with us and just call it amazing.

Here's what we've got lined up with Bert this week: Read more »

NAPP Archive Video Reveals Possible First Documented Sighting of Fake_Deke circa 2006

Some of you are aware of a character who appeared on Twitter recently, that evil twin of our beloved leader, Fake_Deke. Where did this charming if evil rogue come from? No one knows. But this video reveals it might have made his first public appearance a few years back at Photoshop World, during this CSI-themed keynote. At the time, everyone just assumed it was one of Kelby and company's clever videos, with the real Deke giving an Oscar-worthy performance in which he pretended to be evil enough to kill Bert Monroy. Of course, we should have known. How could our sweet, compassionate Deke have been so convincing as an evil doer? I'm now convinced that rather than seeing a nuanced performance by our fearless leader, what we actually saw was the first public appearance of his nefarious doppleganger. Give this video a view and decide for yourself. And thanks to NAPP archivists for shedding light on this mystery. Read more »
