Adobe Photoshop CS4 One-on-One
Learn the ins and outs of Adobe's pixel-wrangling powerhouse with the Photoshop master himself gently guiding your journey in Adobe Photoshop CS4 One-on-One. Deke shows you how to make sense of Photoshop as you learn to make tonal adjustments, balance and correct colors, make selections and masks, sharpen details, apply special effects, master the use of layers, and much much more. And when you're done with an exercise, you'll have proof that the training worked—in the form of a finished project that you can use as a roadmap for expressing your own creative ideas with Photoshop.
As with all One-on-One books, this one includes a series of professionally produced instructional videos, all unique to the book and available nowhere else, produced by industry leader lynda.com. But this time, we offer three improvements: The videos are now 35 percent bigger, measuring a full 1024 by 768 pixels. We no longer downsample, so every screen element is perfectly crisp. And you get more than four hours of content. That's right: Four luxuriant hours of video training with every book.
Combine proven instruction with the biggest bang for the buck on the market, and you have One-on-One. There really is nothing like it.

Can't figure out how to apply workflow settings on Mac
Ok, so I downloaded the CSF file from the website and for starters Photoshop doesn't recognize the file.
In the book it says to drop the workflow settings into Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Settings
Ok, this path does not exist. They do not lead to each other. I can't find the folder to drop it into.
I found the folder where the other color settings are stored so I dropped it in there. The other color settings have a different file extension. Everytime I try something, I go to the color settings and Best workflow never comes up as an option. Even when I choose to look at more settings, the ones that include European and Japan, it's still not there. This is particularly frustrating. Anyone else have the same problem? Solution?

Hi,
What operating system are you using? I will attempt to help you, as I had the same problem at first (Windows 7), since there wasn't an explanation in the book.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry,
Do you know if photoshop cs3 one on one will work with windows 7?
Thank-you!

photoshop cs3 one on one with windows 7
I'm not Terry, but to give you an answer anyway..
Photoshop CS3 One On One is just Deke's book. If you mean the videos on the accompanying disk, I haven't had any problems viewing One On One videos in Windows 7. (I have the CS2 and CS3 books.) If you mean PhotoShop CS3 itself, yes, I had it working (Bridge was a bit flaky, particularly in preview mode, but aside from that it was fine) in Windows 7 before I upgraded to CS5. Consequently I'd expect any content that Deke demonstrates in his book to work in a Windows 7 environment as well, though I have to admit that I haven't tested that.
Don't know where else to post.
How do I get a list and download for listening all of your and Deke's Martini Hour broadcasts?
Thanks
Where to find Deke's Martini Hour
Deke's Martini Hour is located in iTunes under Podcasts. You can download and listen to them from the the very first podcast, as I have just started doing. They are not only interesting and informative but they are also very entertaining and quite funny at times. So, take off your shoes, mix a drink and enjoy.
Settings for Photoshop and Bridge
I had to reinstall PS4 on my PC when I changed hard drives. I lost all of my settings from the videos and book. Is there a list of the settings available?
Thank you.
Keyboard Shortcuts
I am running version 10.6.2 with a newer Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. My preferences panel is different than on page xxi, plus I am not able to make the changes. I am brand new to photoshop so I have no clue how to fix this issue. Is this a problem or just carry on and ignore. Thanks for any assistance.
Under OS X 10.6
The keyboard prefs are organized into panels. You have to hunt thru the panels, but ultimately they're still there.
Or just ignore -- it mostly just affects your ability to use the function keys (F1 thru F12).
compared to lynda
I just finished the lynda.com one on one tutorial at the fundamental level and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was wondering how this book and its videos compare to the fundamenta/advanced/mastery lynda.com videos.
Ch 6 Missing Patterns for Step 17
There are only two patterns available to me when I try to choose the pattern for the metal pattern. Can I get the other pattern file?
Best workflow color file
I made the change to the best workflow you indicated (in the book) manually but where does Windows 7 keep the color files (csf files) anyway? Anyone know. Thanx
Jim Cummings
Best workflow color file - CS4 One-on-One
Jim, did you ever get an answer to your question? How did you manually change to the best workflow? I can't find how to copy the best workflow to the user\application data location in Windows 7. Thanks a lot.
Best Workflow - Windows 7
I had the same issue at first, but I conducted a search for the following listing, which is in the upper right corner of the My Computer window:
*.csf
where "*" designates "ALL" files with the extension .csf. I found that they are located in the following folder, which is where you would paste your copy of the file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Settings\Recommended)
You should see the file North American General Purpose in this folder. If not, I would suggest you run a search as well, since our folders may be set up in a slightly different manner (my laptop isn't set up with multiple users).
Hope this helps,
Terry
using blur to sharpen
Could not finish the softbear sharpen using high pass command. Tried to choose overlay in the layers palette but the pop-up menu is grayed out. Did I miss a step?
Thanks

Spectrum Color Wheel
Deek and Co,
On Page 71 of the CS4 one-on-one book, there is a color wheel. I would like a copy, since it lists the variation names as well. Would it be possible to post it on the web site to download?
Thank You

Wall sized image would be handy
You say in the book that "...you'll want to rip it out of the book and paste it to your wall."
I do want to do that but it's too small and I don't want to tear up my book! It doesn't scan to a larger size worth a darn either.
A nice high res printable file would really be helpful.
Thanks
Hopefully Helpful Bridge Rotation Tip
I hope that this will help someone else. I've just started the lessons. In the first lesson, one of the tasks is to rotate some thumbnails (P 14, #10). My rotate buttons were greyed out and wouldn't work, but the rotation in Photoshop itself worked fine.
I found out that the thumbnail images were locked on my PC. Right clicking on each one brings up a menu that has an unlock / Lock selection about 2/3 of the way down. I unlocked the images and could rotate all I wanted.
Level of Knowledge in book?
Hi,
I am a beginner in Photoshop. I know a few things that I've picked up, but some of them, like changing foreground and background colors stumped me. Is you book appropriate to learn photoshop from the ground up, or does it assume some knowledge? Right now I'm dirt poor so I can't afford the videos.
The book is definitely helpful for a beginner, I've realized!
Thanks
Yes, Photoshop can make
Yes, Photoshop can make design so easy but it's too complicated
Photoshop CS4 Channels and Masks
I'm on Chapter 7 -- Employing a Knockout Mask and am trying to open "Ancient doorway." I get the following message: Could not complete your request because an unexpected end of file was encountered. I've never seen this before. Any suggestions?
