Deke’s Techniques 249: Creating Golden Motion Trails in Photoshop

249 Creating bright, golden motion trails

First, let me get my bearings, because I just spelt silhouette correctly. This is important because this week’s free Deke’s Techniques episode takes these ordinary jumping silhouettes, who’ve managed little more than jumping in the right direction so that the Ocean Ripple filter works properly for Deke’s purposes, and turned them into superhero beach jumpers, replete with tell-tale golden motion trails.

The technique involves a secret cocktail of filters and masks (as is, really, appropriate for superhero creation). You can see the recipe ingredients in the Layers panel here:

Check out the movie to see how Deke quickly creates both the light trails and the mask that presents them properly (only time travelers have trails in that precede them.) And stay tuned for next week’s Illustrator-based technique.
