Free dekeKeys Custom Shortcuts for Photoshop and Illustrator CC

For Creative Cloud subscribers who are also connoisseurs of keyboard shortcuts, Deke’s custom collection—aka dekeKeys—is now available for Photoshop and Illustrator CC. These treasured files are actually part of Deke’s Photoshop CC One-on-One: Advanced and Illustrator CC One-on-One: Advanced courses at lynda.com.

But you don’t have to be a member of lynda.com to get the files, because Deke also makes them available to members of dekeOnline. And that membership is free, my dekeLings.

dekeKeys: Deke's Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

If you’re already a member, read on for the links. If you’re not a member, why don’t you want free stuff? You can register here and read on and grab the files like a self-respecting, privileged dekeOphile:

In fact, why don’t I put them right here (PS) and here (AI) so you can download them?

To install for Photoshop, you’ll want to locate the files on your hard drive, right-click on the dekeKeys for Photoshop.kys file, and choose to open it with Photoshop CC. Then choose Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and rename the modified shortcuts file by clicking on the center icon to the right of the Set name and saving the Set as dekeKeys.

For Illustrator, you’ll notice a bonus over at lynda.com, the first chapter of Deke’s course is completely unlocked and provides video instruction for installing the shortcuts, making some Mac-specific tweaks, and setting up your optimal color settings.

Note that inside each respective zip file is also an HTML file that contains a list of all the shortcuts (dekeKeys are marked in red). A coupla folk around here were asking for just such a thing the other day, and lo and behold, Deke is not only knowledgable and generous, but he can read your mind. Hopefully, he continues to use his powers for good!

Actually, there’s a lot of painstaking work that Deke puts into making these files and the itinerant documentation. In fact, one day, he spent the entire afternoon researching and then regaling me with keyboard shortcuts you absolutely don’t want to try. To quote:

“One thing I definitely do not recommend is Command-Control-Power.”

Deke McClelland, testing deadly shortcuts so you don’t have to. And now once again sharing his beneficial ones with you.
