Martini Hour 028, In Which Deke Laughs Maniacally for No Apparent Reason

Welcome, dear dekeOtonians to another Thursday full of martinis and mayhem. This week, we’re joined by Adobe’s own patient and talented Jeff Tranberry, Senior Quality Product Specialist who toils for you, the end user, from Adobe’s secret Minnesota stronghold. That means he’s the guy who makes sure that by the time you try to employ Photoshop in your everyday life, someone (that would be Jeff) has said, “Ahem, um, this might not be working exactly right.” Buy this man a frosty microbrew.

Some of you may recall that Jeff was the one who (despite trying to have an evening out with friends) helped Deke write his free Channels & Masks Configurator panel, which houses all the tools you need to do the tasks delineated in his Photoshop CS4 Channels & Masks One-on-One book.

Here are some of the highlights from this week’s show:

Jeff and Deke relive the glory days of ImageReady, and why fans of that program still lament its demise. Colleen tries to bond with Jeff over our analogous job descriptions. And finally listen as Jeff discusses the new Flash panels in Photoshop and why it matters so much that he literally hid in the kitchen to help Deke make one work. Oh, and go to labs.adobe.com to try out all kinds of cool stuff, including the aforementioned Configurator, which allows you to make your own such panels.

(Update: Deke and Jeff also allude to some missing CS4 scripts. With Jeff’s help, Deke has designed a custom palette called Photoshop CS4 Treasure Trove, available to dekeOnline members complete with supporting files.)

And of course, to really cap things off, Jeff goes native and toasts to none other than Prince. And Deke thinks that doves fly. Which they do, but come on!

Where else can you get the inside scoop from a guy who is both engineer and champion of the end user? Nowhere, that’s where. So here’s the regular-quality (192kbps) audio file. You can stream, or for best results, right-click and choose Download or Save.

For you geek-loving audiophiles out there, here’s the high-quality (320kbps) file. Definitely download this one (as opposed to streaming it).

  • beyond colors…

My friend just calIed thru internet phone call and asked me to view this deke blog and have me comment on it’s color. This also got me interested with the appearance of its color….wonderfully mixed..with some pinky pinky and reddish white…it shows differently to me. I could not say its peach…or may be a little more like it….beyond other mixed color…But it really appears wonderful…Good work .
