Very Large Artboards in Adobe Illustrator

In this week’s free Deke’s Techniques episode, Deke explores the vast expanses of Adobe Illustrator’s very large canvas capabilities. Like 100x larger than you remember.

In Illustrator 2021, if you start from a new document, you can create the following:

Black text on a white background with dinosaur silhouette for comparison

(Note, this is an artist’s Photoshop rendition of the actual dinosaur-sized file. For the purposes of not breaking deke.com, I have taken a screenshot of the actual 130,000 x 86,000 point file. But I promise, it’s open inside Illustrator on my computer and it’s really that large.

If you’re a member of LinkedIn Learning, Deke’s got an exclusive movie for you this week in which he actually shows you how to create such an artboard yourself and what the limitations and gotchas might be.

Deke’s Techniques, going Brachiosaurus in the name of art.
